It's Olympic for Vancouver and Canada!

So as the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are just about halfway in, I thought I would say my “two cents”.

Firstly, I am a Olympic supporter and think that the games are the only reason British Columbia didn’t see the whole effect of the economic downturn. I truly believe too that the Olympics (regardless the money and cost) are about bringing a Country, Province, City, Community closer together in a time to show the world what this great land is all about. The Torch Relay was the longest Olympic Torch Relay ever and so it should be. It was brought to 90% of the population of Canada within a hours drive. Not to forget that it showed its true goal, in uniting people together for Team Canada!

As the flame got closer and closer to Vancouver and the Opening, it starting make more noise and people were really getting hyped about the games!

Then comes the night of the Opening, which truly was the best Olympic opening to date. It truly did showcase Canada in it’s prime. Everything was done correctly and really well done.

As the Olympics starting the question was, “Will Canada get Gold on home soil?”, I have a feeling these games where going to be the ones where Canada wins not just one, but multiple Gold medals, and to date we have with four!

So as these games are in the final week, just look in the past and remember, these games aren’t about politics, money, traffic nightmares, or whatever it might be. But about the togetherness of Canada during the games and to say to the World that Canada has something to offer to all sorts of life, young and old, short and tall, who ever it is, Canada has something for you.

Go Canada Go!

US iTunes in Canada?

No this is no joke, for me it came into effect when Skype released their iPhone app, and not in Canada due to CRTC regulations as they require phone providers to offer enhanced 911 services.

So I looked around, and then i decided to try and create a US iTunes account. I remember I created a Canadian iTunes account without a credit card so I thought there would be something like so in the US store.

Be sure to switch the store to the US store from the Canadian Store!

Turns out, its easier! And thanks to Gmail, i was able to use the same email by just adding some txt which was – the ‘+usitunes’ is basically just a tag and you can type anything after the ‘+’ and it will go to your Gmail inbox as if it was a regular email but the address will be the special address.

But you don't create an account using the ‘Sign in’ at the top. Go find a free app in the US app store, like the Skype iPhone app, and click buy. Then click ‘Create Account’ and start filling in the require data.

Once you have entered your email,  password, and stuff, click ‘Continue’.

Now your at the Billing/Payment info.

Now if you just go and create a account without finding an app, you will NOT have to option ‘None’  in the Credit Card type field.  So click  ‘None’ – you can always enter payment info later. Credit Card though is probably still needed for paid apps, but free are not, and then if you either go to the States for a day, or you know someone… you can get a US itunes card, and then you will have itunes credit.

For address field,  enter in a address, you can basically use any state dont matter,  phone number you can just use the (123) 456-7890 fake number, unless you want to…

Once done that,  you click ‘Continue’ and you will get a email and, then you click the link within the email, and away you go.

The way I did my iTunes account in the Canadian store, was i got an iTunes gift card,  and without being logged into an account  i went to ‘Redeem Card’ on the right top of the itunes main page, created an account and there done! So I would assume that it would be the same in the US store, only thing is that gift cards can not be used in another store from which it was bought from.  So you couldn’t use a Canadian iTunes card in the US store and reversed.

So me personally, i am just going to use this account for stuff i can NOT get in the Canadian Store, like apps (Skype app) and some TV shows (even though i have no money on the account, i am planning to do so by buying a US gift card (when i go to the US next time) and bring it back and enter it is.

There is another way which is posted on – so I would encourage to take a look at this option too,  as it is yet different,  but has some points – direct link is –   article posted by ‘kiwinerd’ (author of

This has been yet another post from the headlines of 76 Thousand,  about getting/gaining access to the US iTunes store from Canada.

Thoughts on the Apple 3.0 iPhone/iPod Touch firmware

The other day (Tuesday, March 17, 2009) Apple had announced that coming this summer there will be a new firmware update for the iPhone/iPod touch. The iPhone (2G and 3G) will be a free update, but the iPod touch will be a $9.95 update.

The update includes some well need additions,

Firstly is that finally there will be copy and paste. This is the biggest news to come to the iPhone, as it has been though two OS versions and it has not yet been applied, but it soon well.

Secondly, A2DP stereo Bluetooth. Sure you could live without but really I can see a lot of positive usages for this and frankly, to me this is a needed thing, cause not only is it a phone but a multimedia device and well you get the point.

Also did you know that the iPod touch has Bluetooth built in? Apple put the Bluetooth chip into the iPod touch (2nd Gen, not too sure about the 1st gen) but did not enable use. But with the 3.0 OS upgrade it will now be enabled with A2DP!

The only thing, is why did Apple release the OS upgrade news this past Tuesday when it is not set to release till the summer? Sure I can understand that they want to get some apps and stuff like that as it was the SDK that was release, but I think there might be something else, say a new iPhone hardware coming out at the same time. It has been two years since the iPhone first came out and those people that got a two year contract, are either going to switch there plans to a monthly plan (AT&T sure likes that…) but i think they will release a new iPhone with some other piece of hardware (or looks) just to keep AT&T and other GMS iPhone carriers happy, or who knows, maybe since it has been on AT&T for two years, they will release the new iPhone on a CDMA network (highly doubt it).

What are your thoughts? sure there was more release the other day on the features, like developers having access to like the iPhone’s map app, push notification, addition youtube features, and more.

Couple things l would have liked to see would be some background processing (guess push is kind of a half step) and maybe we still might see this, Flash. As earlier this year they (Apple and/or Adobe) where talking about a ‘special’ flash version for the iphone/mobile devices. So I don’t know, maybe there will be more in the final release, or maybe that will the feature in the new iPhone (if they release one)?

If you would like more info on this update, it can be found on the apple website.

So what are you thoughts on the 3.0 update? Sound good to you, or would you have liked to see something that they didn’t announced?
